Design on long corridors
" Loose-lying Design coverings instead of carpet floors: In the Ellington Hotel in Berlin, modernisation with Design flooring from objectflor went ahead with the hotel in full operation. "
The elegance of the Golden Twenties is a hallmark of the Ellington Hotel Berlin. The building is listed as a historical monument, with corridors more than 100 metres long, and the Ellington has all the status and quality of a modern design hotel with 285 rooms and suites. With a hotel of this size, the renovation of the floors is a project which calls for careful planning, not only in the choice of the new floor covering but also with regard to how it will be laid. Up to now, the rooms and corridors have been fitted with carpet floors, but the management decided that Design flooring should now be used to replace them. Their attractive designs and particularly impressive functional qualities mean that these floors are becoming more and more appealing in hotel construction.
The right choice with vinyl flooring for fast laying
“We started by fitting out three rooms to see how things went”, says Jana Bieder, who handled the project on behalf of the wholesalers “Gustav Knittel Farben”. “As well as the effect of the decors on the area as a whole, an important issue was to decide whether a fixed bonded or loose-laid design floor was better suited for the requirements.” There were three arguments in favour of the loose-lay quality from objectflor: The structure of the covering perceptibly reduces the ambient sound, while the possibility of replacing individual planks extremely rapid and without any complications if the need arises was also very convincing. But, above all, the laying technique saves time, which minimises downtimes in the hotel. In total, some 8,000 square metres of “Blond Rustic” floor covering, from the SimpLay DESIGN VINYL Collection (Art. No. 2507) was used.
A highlight: Prepared inlays with the Design floor covering from objectflor
As well as the quality of the products, the decisive factor for Jana Bieder was the fact that objectflor could readily support the workflow for the inlays ( Verlinkund zu servicepoint_CAD Design) (Art. No. 2517) with the room numbers, which were to be worked into the floor covering, these being precisely cut and therefore quite easy to lay. They are an eye-catching feature in the corridors, as is the combination of carpet and the light-coloured oak look. The red finish absorbs the sound of footfalls and wheeled suitcases, as well as matching perfectly with the historic flair of the hotel.
