Small Animals Clinic, Wiesbaden
A spatial environment with the focus on animals at the Small Animals Clinic, Wiesbaden
" The important thing for us was to find real ‘feel-good materials’ for the floor. " – Heiko Gruber, Interior architect
When it comes to design, the issue is not only a matter of looking attractive, but also providing ideas for better functional performance.
A prime example is the concept of a veterinary clinic in Wiesbaden, created by Planungsbüro i21. The practice sees a large number of four-legged patients who are restricted in their movements, which means that the floor covering is a particularly important factor, not only in creating an agreeable atmosphere in the facility but also to avoid stress and anxiety to the animals by providing a slip-resistant material providing a firm footing. At the same time, it is also essential for the floor covering to be very robust. For the personnel, a major concern was to find a floor covering which in ergonomic terms would provide a high standard of comfort when walking and standing in the clinical section, where the treatment procedures are predominantly carried out while standing.
An elegant Design floor covering combined with coloured rubber flooring
All these requirements are met by the floor covering from objectflor which was selected: In the Reception area, the waiting areas, and the corridors, a rustic wood look was used, from the EXPONA DESIGN Collection in the large format of 15.2 by 91.2 cm. The dark floor covering, with an R10 slip resistance rating, in interplay with the Reception desk made of concrete and the refreshing green of the seating furniture and plants, is both elegant and homely at the same time. In the treatment rooms, the fresh green is taken up by the “KAYAR” rubber floor covering from ARTIGO, which, thanks to the integrated coconut fibres, features a special texture as well as an attractive colour. This combination contributes to the improvement of footfall noise. Interior designer Heiko Gruber is extremely pleased with the flooring: “The important thing for us was to find really ‘feel-good materials’ for the floor. Of course, the functional performance must be guaranteed, but every practice, whether dentist, doctor, or veterinary, should provide visitors and staff with a pleasant environment. It also shows that the floor covering selected is extremely economical thanks to the rapid and easy hygienic cleaning, which can be carried out while business continues as usual.“
